====== Observe, orient, decide, and act (OOPA) ====== The OODA loop originated from the experiences of US Air Force Colonel John Boyd, who wanted to understand why his F-86 fighter pilots were so successful against MiG fighters in the Korean War. A classic example of the OODA loop in action is a fighter pilot in combat, who needs to collect data like their opponent's location and the weather conditions, and then consider that information in the context of their own abilities and their plane's. **Observe** Use all five senses to gather as much information as possible about the situation from multiple sources. This could include data about people, competitors, circumstances, and the environment. **Orient** Analyze the information you've gathered and use it to update your understanding of the situation. This could involve putting the information into context and considering your experiences. **Decide** Weigh your options and choose a course of action. You might need to change your decision based on new information as you learn more. **Act** Implement your decision. As you evaluate the results of your actions, you can start the loop again by observing.
